Clipper VG Case Study
UpWind’s Vortex Generator (VG) solution has been installed on thousands of turbine blades and proven a positive AEP increase on several turbine technologies. It is important to prove the upgrade solution on each turbine technology and blade type to give owner’s a clear picture of expected production (AEP) increase.
This case study examines the effects of the VG solution on Clipper turbines. The report shows the methodology Smart Blade used to determine the final result of an average of 2.0% increase in AEP across seven Clipper sites.

As this report shows, UpWind’s VG solution has been proven on the Clipper technology with a 2.0% AEP increase. Over the past 3 years, the solution has also been proven on multiple other turbine models through extensive collaborative testing with operators. The post processing methodology that is used by Smart Blade is vital to giving owner/operators a clear understanding of how the VG solution will affect their AEP, and what ROI they can expect from their investment in VGs.
