At the 7th Annual Wind Energy Operations & Maintenance Summit in Dallas, TX last week, UpWind Solutions was nominated for and awarded the “Best Example of O&M Excellence” 2015. Wind Energy Update identified 6 categories for their inaugural O&M Excellence awards and we were thrilled to be recognized as a finalist, and then honored to win the ‘Excellence’ category. There are three reasons that this award means so much to me. First, O&M Excellence is a foundational initiative for UpWind, it runs through everything we do. Second, any recognition feels good because it validates what you are doing but peer recognition and votes mean even more. Third, being part of these important awards in a maturing industry, supporting them and representing the industry in the best way we can is a philosophical commitment of ours.
I’d like to thank Wind Energy Update, award sponsors Danish Wind Power Academy and E.ON, as well as the industry representatives who voted for us last week. The recognition means a great deal to all of our employees …thank you!
We have been developing our O&M Excellence model for several years, refining and improving as we go. I even presented on it at the event last week! For us, it starts with our people and our values, ensuring that we attract the right talent, develop it, and retain it within a culture that measures itself by common values.
Next we layer on detailed, accredited, safety and quality programs, ensuring we execute our services to the safest, highest standards possible. Then we add technology through our UpWind Insight™ program to power more innovative, efficient and effective services. Ultimately, these elements combine to deliver more production, lower OPEX and extend asset life …in other words, customer value.
As the industry continues to grow, evolve and mature, it is important that we stay focused on excellence, sharing and supporting best practice. Working together as an industry to strive for excellence means we all do better as service providers, owners, and consumers. Excellence is a win-win for everyone.
Thanks again for the honor,
Peter Wells, CEO, UpWind Solutions
